President Sid Halsey has passed away
Brothers and Sisters,
I was informed of the passing of our local's first President, Sid Halsey this morning by President Mike Sullivan. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2011, at 4:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Macy & Son. I got to know President Halsey during 2008 negotiations when he was brought to a rally to lend his support to our campaign. I also visited him at his nursing home a couple times since then. Listening to his thoughts of our locals history was very inspiring. A true unionist through and through was lost today, but a legacy that was his and is now ours remains.
In Solidarity
President Munger
With permission from President Sullivan, I am posting his thoughts.
"NUMBER ONE HAS DIED
Comrades
I regret to inform you that the first President of United Steelworkers of America Local Union 8378 (Joe Munger and my local) died this morning around 00:30. His name was Sid Halsey. He was 85 years, one month and one day. He was the founder and it was with his quiet leadership that Union members today have the good things that they do. I can’t tell you in an email what this Union Brother did for me and others for many years.
I hope you will pray or do what you do in times like these for this fallen Brother. If you didn’t know him that is too bad, to have known him was a blessing. Family man, Union man, tradesman & one of the best Unionists I ever met.
